JLIA launches 2019 Japan Leather Award

The Japan Leather and Leathergoods Industry Association (JLIA) has announced the Japan Leather Award 2019.

Open to designers and manufacturers all over the country, and even members of the public, JLIA has asked interested parties to submit entries, which can be any fully finished product that uses leather, before the end of July.

At the same time, JLIA has published statistics relating to consumer consumption there in the first six months of 2018.

It said expenditure per household for footwear in the first half of 2018 was $85.75, down slightly (by 0.5%) on the same period in the previous year.

Over the same period, Japanese households spent an average of $41.41 on luggage and handbags. This represents a slight increase (0.6%) compared to the first half of 2017.
