UK fashion designer Tamara Mellon, the co-founder of luxury shoe brand Jimmy Choo, has announced her eponymous label has completed a $50 million Series C round of financing, which will allow it to expand its retail footprint.

The funding was led by London-based investment firm Centricus and included existing investors like New Enterprise Associates and Quadrille Capital. It means the brand was so far raised total capital of $87 million.

Ms Mellon originally launched the brand in 2011 but filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection four years later. She relaunched it as a direct-to-consumer label in 2016.

This fresh funding will principally be used for retail expansion, which includes the opening of five news stores over the next year. It also plans to grow its employee numbers from 40 to 60 by the end of 2019.
