A tough year for Colombia’s shoe industry

Footwear manufacturers in Colombia exported just under 2 million pairs in 2018, bringing in export revenues of $28.8 million. These figures represent declines of 15% in volume and of 4.1% in value.

Meanwhile, retailers and traders brought 37.9 million pairs of shoes into the country last year, with a total value of $388 million. In this case, the year-on-year comparison shows an increase of 11% in volume and of 12% in value.

National industry association Acicam has pointed out that the number of pairs of shoes coming into the country in 2018 declined compared to 2016. The 2018 statistics show a decline in footwear imports of 17.8% in volume compared to two years earlier. Acicam said this suggested measures to control imports were working.
