Winter sports and football to feature prominently at ISPO China
09/01/2019
Organisers have said they expect 400 exhibitors representing 700 brands to take part in the event, which will take place at the China International Exhibition Center (CIEC).
One of this year’s highlights is a new partnership with Germany’s top professional football league, the Bundesliga. A number of leading clubs will be represented at the fair and will take part in a variety of discussions and forums. Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Eintracht Frankfurt, FC Schalke 04, VfB Stuttgart and VfL Wolfsburg will all be represented.
Around 50% of the brands at ISPO Beijing are from outside China, with footwear specialists Rossignol and Scarpa among the regular attenders. European brands taking part in the exhibition that are newer to Asia include Sled Dogs from Norway, which claims to have developed the world’s first snowskates. This ties in well with another of the themes at this edition of ISPO Beijing, winter sports.
Co-founder, Tommy Einar Gydar Syversen, has told World Footwear that Sled Dogs travelled to one of China’s prime winter sports areas, Harbin, to demonstrate the footwear product and made a big impression. He said government officials, who are keen to introduce more Chinese citizens to winter sports, want to repeat the exercise.
He said he thinks this will work well because Sled Dogs are safe and a good way to introduce people to the mountains. “In just a couple of hours, people can reach a level of ability with Sled Dogs that it would take two days to reach when learning to ski,” he said. “People don’t believe me when I say that, but as soon as they try the product, they see that it’s true.”
