Dolce&Gabbana founders sorry for China ‘mistakes’
The founders of luxury brand Dolce&Gabbana have made a video to ask forgiveness for the controversy the company has caused in China owing to “mistakes” in the way the company has depicted Chinese culture in an advertising campaign.

Recent advertisements have gone down badly in China for showing Chinese people trying to eat spaghetti and pizza with chopsticks. Dolce&Gabbana had to cancel a catwalk show in Shanghai in mid-November and, in the days that followed, Chinese e-commerce sites stopped selling the brand’s products. It has boutiques in 25 Chinese cities and special administrative regions.

On the video that the founders released on November 23, Domenico Dolce said: “We have also been deeply in love with China and have visited many of its cities. We love its culture. That’s why we are sorry if we made mistakes in the way we have interpreted it.”

Co-founder, Stefano Gabbana, who allegedly made comments on social media platform Instagram that contributed to the controversy (he has claimed his account was hacked), said on the video: “We won’t forget this experience and it will never happen again. We will do better in future and we will respect Chinese culture in every way possible.”
