Footwear now dominates Turkey’s leather-sector exports

The value of Turkey’s leather-sector exports has remained constant in the last three or four years at a level of around $1.5 billion. However, the type of product in demand in export markets appears to be changing.

Four years ago, leather garments made from double-face lambskin or sheep nappa commanded a share of 55% of total value. Today, this category’s share is closer to 20%.

Conversely, leather footwear’s share four years ago was 25%, but now contributes more than 50%., while semi-processed and finished leather’s share has gone from 10% to 20%. Leathergoods bring in 10% of total revenues, the same as four years ago.
