UK shoemaking in the spotlight on new TV show

29/10/2018
Leather shoemaking will be among the industries to feature in a new television programme dedicated to traditional craftsmanship in the UK.

A new BBC series entitled ‘Made in Great Britain’ aired for the first time on October 26. The weekly episodes see four craftspeople take on the challenge of learning the skills from six different crafts.

The craftspeople include a leather worker, a potter, a chef and a blacksmith. The crafts they will learn about are chocolate, cheese, steel, pottery, shoes and hats.

During the process, they will experience both early and modern-day methods of production for each area. The training in shoemaking takes place in Northampton, the UK’s footwear heartland.
