The latest issue of World Footwear is now available
The September/October 2018 issue of World Footwear magazine is now available. The full e-zine can be accessed here.

This issue has safety shoes as its main theme. It includes a closer look at the relationship between direct soling technology developer Desma and German safety footwear manufacturer Atlas. We also bring details of research being carried out at the University of Pittsburgh to develop a new modelling system that is said to be able to predict the traction performance of shoe treads.

An extensive technical offering includes a look back at the progression of safety shoes during the twentieth century and an examination of the merits of the different materials that can be used in protective toecaps. Other articles related to manufacturing and materials innovation come courtesy of Portuguese research organisation CTCP and polymer manufacturer Covestro.

Away from safety shoes, we learn how support from the World Bank could help create jobs in the Ethiopian footwear sector and present the latest development in footwear designer Christian Louboutin’s fight to protect his famous red sole. We also hear from a number of the figures that have been instrumental in the launch of a new shoemakers’ apprenticeship programme in the UK.
