Colombia turns a corner

16/07/2018
The president of Colombian industry association Acicam, Gustavo Flórez, has said the leather sector there appears to have turned a corner.

In the build-up to the 2018 edition of the Bogotá International Footwear and Leather Show (IFLS), which runs from July 17-19, Mr Flórez said 2017 had been a difficult year for local manufacturers and that the start of 2018 had been challenging too.

However, he said that, from April onwards, sales had started to pick up and that the industry registered a 1.1% increase in revenues in the first six months of this year compared to 2017.

Exports have picked up substantially, the Acicam president added, rising by 16.2% to around $17.5 million over the six-month period.
