UITIC congress closes

In his closing remarks, the outgoing president of the organisation, the International Union of Shoe Industry Technicians, Yves Morin said it had been “an amazing event” and thanked local organisers, footwear industry bodies CTCP and Apiccaps, for their hard work.
Mr Morin confirmed that the next UITIC Congress will take place in two years’ time but said discussions about the venue are ongoing.
“We have three official candidate countries,” he said, “South Africa, Colombia and Romania. There are other possible host countries too, but none of them are official yet.”
Portugal has set the bar high for future host countries after an event that included visits to more than 20 factories in the region around Porto, a busy congress programme on the theme of ‘From Fashion to Factory: A New Technological Age’, and a spectacular gala dinner in the host city’s ancient stock exchange.
“In Portugal, footwear is more than just a business,” Yves Morin concluded. “You can feel that people here really have the industry in their hearts. I had the pleasure of spending some time during the factory visits with the founder of the Kyaia group, Fortunato Federico and I must say I think Fortunato is doing a great job, not just in promoting the footwear industry, but the whole country.”
