UITIC congress in Porto sold out
The 20th edition of the UITIC (International Union of Shoe Industry Technicians) Congress in Porto (May 16-18) has had to turn away people who wanted to attend. In the days leading up to the event, UITIC had to hang up the ‘Sold Out’ sign as footwear industry professionals continued to attempt to register for the event.

Joint organiser, Leandro de Melo, vice-president of UITIC, told footwearbiz on May 16: “We simply reached the point at which we had to turn people away because the congress hotels are completely full and there is no way we can fit any more people into the auditorium.” UITIC president, Yves Morin, said there had been a record level of registrations, with the total number of delegates likely to exceed 500 people from 30 different countries.

With ‘From Fashion to Factory: A New Technological Age’ as the theme of the congress, delegates visited factories in the region around Porto on May 15 and 16 before two days of presentations and discussions.
