Research group puts Russian shoe retail market at almost $20 billion

Market intelligence agency Discovery Research Group has said consumers in Russia bought 329 million pairs of shoes and boots in 2017, but that only 20% of them were made in Russia.

It said China, Vietnam, Turkey, India and Italy were the five most important sources of the 80% of shoes that retailers and wholesalers imported into the country last year.

Discovery said women’s shoes accounted for 64% of the market (in terms of value), men’s 23% and children’s 13%. It suggested, however, that sales of men’s shoes are increasing and that this is reflected in a wider range of men’s shoe collections now being available in shoe shops across Russia.

The research group also said that the average price per pair that Russian consumers paid at retail was $60 in 2017, making Russian footwear retail almost a $20 billion sector.
