C&A Foundation to fund initiatives for better working conditions in Brazil
13/02/2018
“As consumers become increasingly aware of the conditions in which fashion is made, the demand for greater transparency has increased,” the foundation said on making the announcement. “We are looking for innovative ways to improve working conditions in the fashion industry in Brazil.”
It went on to explain that initiatives presented for inclusion in the programme should focus on bringing into the public domain “accurate and credible sources of information” on issues that directly or indirectly affect working conditions; on helping key players make decisions and implement actions that promote changes that affect working conditions; or on bringing about changes that “have the potential to be systemic”, impacting the whole industry rather than just one factory or brand.
Executive director of the Brazilian C&A Foundation, Instituto C&A, Giuliana Ortega, said she believes greater transparency can contribute towards making working conditions a priority in the sector because it will make reliable information publicly accessible and encourage accountability.
This programme will have an initial budget of $400,000 and will fund up to three proposals. Proposals can come from international organisations, but the initiatives must work in the Brazilian fashion industry.
Proposals can be drafted in Portuguese or English and sent by e-mail to instituto@institutocea.org.br by March 11, 2018, with the subject line ‘Proposta Edital Transparência 2018’.
