BASF invests in new technology to challenge fluoropolymers

Chemicals group BASF has invested, through its BASF Venture Capital subsidiary, $8 million in Boston-based specialty chemicals firm NBD Nano.

NBD Nano has proprietary technology that will allow any plastic resin to become “more repellent than the leading fluoropolymer technologies”, according to the investment manager at BASF Venture Capital, Jacob Grose.

In its own explanation of its technology platform, NBD Nano says it enables “the creation of customised coatings and additives for any application on any substrate, with unprecedented durability and adaptability”.
