Colombian footwear group Stanton has said it wants to increase its export business from only 5% of production at the moment to 20% in the next five years.

Stanton, which makes shoes under the Brahma, Aeroflex, Ibiza, Solimar, Baxter, La Pandilla and Cauchosol brands, sells already in the US and Spain, as well as in a number of Latin American countries.

Its two factories in and around Bogotá are producing a combined total of around 35,000 pairs per day at peak times but have the capacity to increase this to 55,000 pairs. Company president, Ronald Bakalarz, has said the ongoing problem of cheap imports is making Colombia a difficult market and that this has encouraged him to develop an export expansion strategy.
