Almansa wants its own footwear training centre

Almansa’s mayor, Francisco Núñez, met senior representatives of national footwear industry association FICE in mid-September to discuss the idea.
At the meeting, Mr Núñez explained that, with a total population of 25,000, Almansa’s footwear industry provides 3,000 direct jobs at more than 60 local companies that are involved in or connected to shoe production.
However, the authorities in the town have said that the footwear workforce is ageing and that it is becoming more and more difficult to recruit people with a sufficient level of skill and experience to carry out certain specialist functions.
The mayor has said he is aware of the high levels of support that the town’s shoe manufacturers would lend to a project to have a facility locally to train new workers for their companies.
