Portuguese industry in search of new talent

Mr Onofre told local media that the footwear sector has created 9,000 new jobs in Portugal since 2010, but said the figure would be higher if the industry had been able to present itself in a better light to young workers.
He said Apiccaps was now taking steps to change that and has recently launched a new campaign called ‘A new generation of talent’. He said an extensive project of visiting schools is already under way and is proving popular.
The Apiccaps president explained: “We go into secondary schools and talk to the students about shoes are made and to tell them about the way the footwear industry works these days, that it’s an attractive industry and one in which they are almost guaranteed to find a job. And the young people respond very enthusiastically to that.”
