Representatives of the government of the Dominican Republic met with a delegation of 17 members of the senior management team of footwear brand Timberland at the end of May.

Minister José Ramón Peralta said the government of the Caribbean country holds Timberland in high esteem because it has been producing footwear there for 23 years now and employs 3,200 people in the free trade zone of Santiago.

He went on to say that government figures show that Timberland shipped 3.8 million pairs of shoes and boots from the Dominican Republic in 2016, bringing in export revenues of $152 million. Mr Peralta said the government is committed to further development of the free zones.
