Tricker’s celebrates long-lasting lasts
31/05/2017
It’s 80 years since the company, which was founded in 1829, began using last number 4444 and number 4497.
The first of these, known in house as “all the fours” is used to make the company’s Bourton range of brogues, while last 4497 is the one the company uses to make its Stow range of country boots.
Tricker’s describes the Stow country boot as “the cornerstone of the brand”. Although it has (only) been making the range of boots on the 4497 last for 80 years, the product is based on a design that former head of the company, Walter James Balrtrop, came up with in 1840 when he was just seven years old.
Walter James Barltrop married into the Tricker family and his descendants still run the company today.
