Vietnamese industry has $18 billion export target

Vietnam’s leather and footwear industry expects to bring in export revenues of $18 billion in 2017, an increase of 10% compared to last year. The figure comes from national leather industry association, Lefaso.

The organisation said it still expects orders for shoes and bags that previously went to China to come Vietnam now. Today, China wants to invest in high-tech, Lefaso said.

However, Vietnamese tanners and finished product manufacturers are also going to have to invest in technology if they are to meet the 2017 export revenue target, Lefaso added, to increase production and quality.

Of the $16.2 billion the Vietnamese leather sector earned in export revenues in 2016, 80% came from exports of leather shoes.
