08/02/2017
Po-Zu launched in 2006 and has won recognition for its ethical approach to business. It gives 3% of sales revenues to environmental charities, sources natural materials that include organic cotton and piñatex and has a commitment to using renewable energy.
Safia Minney founded a fashion company called People Tree and led it for 24 years, developing a reputation as a champion of partnerships in sustainability and fair trade. She stepped down from that role in November 2015 and spent her time between then and taking up her new role at Po-Zu doing some consultancy and writing a book called ‘Slave To Fashion’, which will be published in March 2017.
On joining Po-Zu, she commented: “I’m excited. It’s great to bring my expertise and creativity to build positive change in the footwear industry. The more powerful, strong and innovative brands we have in this sector the better; we need more collaboration and sharing of knowledge as ethics in the fashion business is becoming a non-negotiable.”
One of the first projects the new managing director is working on is a collection Po-Zu is preparing to launch jointly with the Star Wars franchise, which will include replicas of the inter-galactic footwear worn in the films by some of the key characters. The shoes are being made by outsource manufacturing partners in Portugal and will be available to the public from August 2017.
