Asset management company Carlyle Europe Partners has confirmed that it has reached an agreement to acquire Venice-based footwear brand Golden Goose. It mentioned no price for the deal but business media, including the Financial Times, have said it values the Italian brand at €400 million.

Golden Goose specialises in luxury sneaker-style leisure shoes, which continue to enjoy great popularity; prices start at around €300 per pair. Unlike many sneakers, the Golden Goose collection contains shoes that use leather, including calfskin, suede and chamois.

On making the announcement, Marco De Benedetti, managing director of Carlyle Europe Partners, said: “We admire Golden Goose’s unique brand identity, effective business model and undisputed capacity to innovate and create a new category of luxury fashion sneakers.” He said his company sees great potential for Golden Goose in North America and Asia as well as in Europe.
