The authorities in the city of Sremska Mitrovica in northern Serbia have announced that Italian footwear manufacturer East West is to open a new factory there. Mayor Vladimir Sanader has told local media that the East West facility will begin production in the autumn of 2017.

He said a deal to finalise the acquisition of the land would be complete in the first days of this year and than, when fully operational, the shoe factory will employ up to 600 people.

East West is owned by Enrico Rossi, who already has interests in Serbia through Progetti, which has sites in several Serbian cities and exports finished shoes and uppers from the country.
