Ethiopia: two new industrial parks ready in February

08/12/2016
Ethiopian government agency the Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC) has said two new industrial parks, at Kombolcha and Mekele, will be open for business in February 2017.

The two facilities, which are the result of $250 million of investment, will create more than 50,000 new jobs, deputy chief executive of IPDC, Amare Asgedom, said in recent comments. A further eight industrial parks are planned.

Ethiopia has put aside more than $1 billion for the construction of industrial parks in its second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP-II), which spans the period from 2015-2020. It believes the industrial parks will help it achieve a bigger target of establishing Ethiopia as a middle-income country by 2025.
