Novatech chief executive to remain as FESI president

28/11/2016
Members of the Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI), the Brussels-based body that lobbies on behalf of sports equipment manufacturers and brands, came together for their 2016 general assembly in Rome on November 17 and 18.

At the meeting, the chief executive of Italian ski boot and cycling footwear and equipment manufacturer Novation, Luca Businaro, was re-elected as FESI president, a position he has held since 2011.

In comments at the meeting, Mr Businaro said his focus for his second term of office (2016-2019) will be to help FESI be “the leading voice of the European Sporting Goods Industry, reaching the highest political recognition, driving the promotion of physical activity and fuelling growth for our membership”. He said that developing “the innovation dimension” in sport will help the industry win greater “political attention”.

Another outcome of the Rome meeting was that FESI will add three new work streams to its current activities. It will organise regular training seminar to help member companies formulate growth-focused business plans and launch a programme of market studies. It will also work to improve its relationships with national sports federations and regional organisations to help them use European Union funding well.

Finally, it will promote good governance and integrity in the sporting goods industry, in co-operation with the International Centre for Sports and Security and other relevant stakeholders, in creating new “behavioural standards”.
