Russian footwear buyers return to Turkey

Sources in Turkey claim the 2016 Eksposhoes Istanbul footwear exhibition was a success. The event, held in the Turkish city from November 8-11 attracted 36,000 visitors and had 1,500 Turkish footwear manufacturers as exhibitors.

Overseas buyers from France, Germany, UK, Romania and Bulgaria attended. However, the most important overseas contingent came from Russia with buyers there placing orders for 2017 that, according to Suleyman Gursoy, president of the Turkish Footwear Industry Association, will exceed $500 million in value.

This trade will come as welcome relief to Turkish manufacturers who have long depended on Russian buyers for the bulk of their export business. In the course of 2016, orders from Russia decreased dramatically following conflict between Turkey and Russia.
