Pakistan’s footwear exports hold steady

During first quarter of the current financial year (July-September 2016), leather-sector exports from Pakistan fell by 9% in value compared to the same period a year ago to reach $236.3 million.

Leather footwear performed the best. The country exported 2.6 million pairs of shoes, bringing in revenues of $26.2 million in July, August and September this year, which is flat in both volume and value compared to the same months in 2015.

By way of comparison, over the period in question, tanners exported 3.4 million square-metres of finished leather, a decline in volume of more than 25% compared to a year ago. The decline in value of these exports was 12%, with $85.5 million coming in.

Leathergoods exports had a value of $125 million for the three-month period in 2016, a fall of 8% year on year.
