US still well ahead in shoe consumption table
Figures made public by footwear automation and machinery provider Desma at its 2016 supplier exhibition on September 15 have the US as the clear leader still in the per capita shoe consumption rankings.

According to statistics that Desma joint managing director, Christian Decker, shared at the event, consumers in the US are currently buying 7.2 pairs of shoes per year each.

Japan is second, according to Desma’s figures, consuming 4.9 pairs per capita per year, followed by the European Union in third place on 4.8 pairs, and by Canada in fourth with a figure of 3.75 pairs per person per year.

Australia comes next with 3.71 pairs, followed by Taiwan with 3.02, China with 2.94, Brazil with 2.68 and South Korea with 2.56 pairs.
