China’s shoe output to show first fall in decades in 2016
China produced just under 60% of global shoe output last year, according to figures released by footwear automation and machinery provider Desma at its 2016 supplier exhibition on September 15.

Joint managing director, Christian Decker, said at the event that, after almost 40 years of year-on-year increases, he expects China’s footwear production to decrease in 2016.

Last year, according to Desma’s figures, China produced 13.53 billion pairs out of a global total of 22.57 billion. According to Mr Decker, China’s figure for 2016 will be 13.25 billion, registering the country’s first decline in shoe production in decades.

He said China’s total footwear output will continue to drop in years to come, with Vietnam one of the principal countries to gain.
