The concept car featured material on the exterior rather than metal and the Puma X-Cat features an upper made of a similar silver stretch fabric. The original fabric that was applied over the BMW chassis was developed by Puma in collaboration with Designworks, a BMW Group subsidiary who led the design process for the shoe.
The BMW X-Cat Disc uses Puma’s Disc technology, which consists of a dial that is rotated to tighten the shoes instead of conventional laces. An internal system of wires wraps and secures the upper for a comfortable fit. The laser-cutting across the front of the shoe resembles the “gill-like texture” that appears on the concept car when its doors are opened. It also features Puma’s iconic stripe on the outer in a reflective print. A BMW logo is printed on the Disc.
