Uruguay: local shoe industry protests as government buys from China
29/06/2016
Uruguay’s national footwear industry association said the government had at no stage asked Uruguayan companies to submit a price to carry out the work and it said it had seen no official figures outlining how much the government hopes to save by buying from China instead.
It pointed out that the volume of footwear involved would have kept 80 people in a Uruguayan shoe factory in work for six months.
