Overseas investment is changing the face of the footwear industry in Cuba, according to government officials.

Cuba’s national footwear production company has concentrated in recent years in producing only safety boots for workers. Thanks to an investment of up to $10 million by a Chinese industrial partner, the Cuban government-owned company is preparing to open a new factory in Havana that will make dress shoes and footwear shoes for men, women and children.

The new facility will have eight production lines and a production capacity of 6 million pairs per year.

In addition, the national footwear company has plans to set up a factory in a new special economic development zone in Mariel with capacity to produce 20 million pairs per year.
