Portuguese footwear exports jump 3.2%

Portuguese footwear exports jump 3.2%
Exports of footwear from Portugal increased 3.2% during the first four months of 2016. Between January and April, the country exported 28 million pairs of shoes for a total amount of €607 million and is on course for the seventh consecutive year of growth to overseas markets.

Growth was strong across all regions with exports to Europe being especially strong. The 4% increase in exports to the region was led by France, where exports grew 7% to €136 million, and the Netherlands, where the total value of footwear exports was up 3% to €84 million.

Exports of footwear to China were up 7% to €4 million and Canada saw growth of 4% to €5 million. Results for the USA and Australia were also impressive. The USA imported 28% more shoes from Portugal at a total value of €22 million and those to Australia were 45% higher at €4 million. There was also growth in Latin America with Colombia (86% higher) the biggest increase.
