Sendra senses big demand for artisan shoes

Almansa-based footwear company Sendra Boots has said 20% of its €13 million revenues in 2015 came, not from sales of the handmade western-style boots it’s most famous for, but of more classic styles under a second brand, Andrés Sendra.

Andrés Sendra the brand is named after the company’s founder, the grandfather of current chief executive, Javier Sendra. Its collections comprise derbies, oxfords, loafers, double-monks and desert-style boots, in a range of vibrant colours. Priced at up to €350 per pair, Sendra is aiming the shoes at high-end consumers in markets around the world, including Asia.

Son of a tanner from near Valencia, Andrés Sendra left Spain for the US at the start of the twentieth century and worked as a leather trader there. He fell in love with western boots and, on returning to Spain, worked out designs of his own and founded Sendra Boots in 1913.
