Handmade Italian shoe brand to close its doors

According to reports in Italy, luxury handmade footwear company Pakerson is to close. Union representatives said the news had come out of the blue for the 64 employees at the company’s manufacturing plant in Cerreto Guidi near Florence.

Pakerson is run by fifth-generation members of the family of Giulio Brotini, who set up a footwear laboratory in Cerreto Guidi in 1923. His son, Luciano, took the business over and began producing his own shoes, establishing the Pakerson brand in 1958.

Collections include high-end handmade shoes for men and women, including men’s derbies that carry a price-tag of €465 per pair and wedge open-toe pumps for women that cost €405 per pair.
