Venezuelan producer eyes export markets following school shoe success

15/03/2016
Calzados Volmes, a footwear producer based the Yaguara district of Caracas, has announced a commission from the Venezuelan state to start producing shoes for export.

Volmes has been a successful supplier to the government of school shoes; as part of a wider programme to provide Venezuelan children with free school shoes, the company produced 250,000 pairs in 2015 and will make more this year. There have been reports in Venezuela of a National Footwear Plan, under which up to 350 shoe manufacturers will be contracted to make shoes for local children.

In the case of Volmes, the company has claimed not just to have satisfied the demands of the government but to have made shoes of a suitable quality for export to countries in the Caribbean region and even to parts of Brazil.
