Bucaramanga to have its own regional shoe brand

Wilson Gamboa Meza, president of local footwear industry association Asoinducals, said setting up a Bucaramanga brand in this way would help his member companies compete, “not just throughout Colombia but internationally as well”.
At present, 6,200 companies in and around Bucaramanga are involved in the production of leather and footwear. The shoe companies produce between 2 million and 3 million pairs of shoes each month. Mr Gamboa said 120,000 families are dependent on the sector.
The idea has the backing of Bucaramanga’s mayor, Rodolfo Hernández, who has said: “If shoes from Bucaramanga have a brand, they will have an identity.” He said that identity should reflect the high levels of design and innovation that, in the mayor’s opinion, form “the language of the industry here”.
