Atossa offers 3D printed high-heeled shoes for $99
A start-up footwear brand specialising in 3D printed heels for women, Atossa, has launched a Kickstarter funding campaign in which people interested in the concept can receive a pair of the company’s 3D printed shoes for an investment of $99.

Founder, Behrad Ghodsi, has told World Footwear that he believes Atossa shoes will offer high levels of wearability owing to the ability of 3D printed footwear producers to make shoes that shape themselves exactly to the unique characteristics of each person’s feet.

Mr Ghodsi also said he is confident, having worked on the project for more than a year, producing multiple prototypes and conducting user testing, that his shoes will prove to be as durable as mainstream high-heels. Plus, if anything goes wrong with the shoes or customers simply grow tired of them, they can send them back to Atossa for reprinting and receive a new pair at “a huge discount”.

He told World Footwear: “This shoe prints in one piece so there is no chance of parts of it becoming detached. Secondly, we searched for a stylish, organic structure that could be printed by 3D printers. The strength of the structure, with minimum material usage, was a concern since it should be able to tolerate the pressures of the wearer’s weight and her movements. We have ended up with a texture of microscopic bones, which provides both style and sturdiness for the shoes.”

Originally from Iran and now based in Rochester, New York, Behrad Ghodsi worked on the Atossa project as his thesis for a Master’s in industrial design at the Rochester Institute of Technology. He already holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Industrial Design from the Art University of Tehran.
