Ian Fleming’s debonaire spy, played by Daniel Craig, appears at various points in the film wearing no fewer than six different Crockett & Jones styles, including the Northcote, Radnor and Camberley boots, the Alex and Norwich dress shoes and the Swansea suede brogue.
Just before the film’s release, the Financial Times published an article giving details of all the brands that have screen time in Spectre and stated clearly that many of them have paid handsomely to feature. For example, quoting internal company memos that have appeared on whistleblower website Wikileaks, the FT alleged consumer electronics firms have paid millions of dollars to be involved.
Not so Crockett & Jones, though. The Northampton-based footwear company has confirmed to World Footwear that, while it hopes to attract new customers through James Bond-related publicity (of which it already has experience following participation in a previous James Bond film, Skyfall, in 2012), its links to the films have grown thanks to what it calls “an organic process” rather than through paying for the privilege.
The company added that, while it is disinclined to disclose the details of this organic process, it is “very proud” to feature in Spectre.
