Ecuador’s new Shoe City can become a tourist attraction

The project will be complete some time in 2018, according to initial reports.
President of the footwear industry association, Lila Villavicencio, said she thought the proposed project will mean much more than just relocating existing footwear businesses. “This will be a turnaround for national footwear production,” she insisted. “It will become a tourist attraction and create lots of jobs.”
Ms Villavicencio’s organisation estimates that the footwear industy in Ecuador currently supports around 100,000 jobs and was responsible for collective sales valued at $560 million in 2014.
