Sneaker exhibition explores cultural significance over two centuries
The history of trainers and their cultural significance will be under the spotlight as part of an exhibition at the US-based Brooklyn Museum from July 10 until October.

The Rise of Sneaker Culture includes an 1860s spiked running shoe, a pair of 1936 track shoes from Adidas (pictured), the original Air Force 1 and early adidas Superstars; contemporary sneaker collaborations with artists such as Damien Hirst and Kanye West; as well as prototype drawings spanning the career of Nike design legend Tinker Hatfield.

Also included are film footage, photos and drawings that explore the social history, technical innovation, trends and celebrity endorsements that have shaped sneaker culture over the past two centuries.

Following Brooklyn, the exhibition will be presented at the Toledo Museum of Art in Ohio from December 3 to February 28, 2016; the High Museum of Art in Atlanta from June 12 to August 14, 2016; and the Speed Art Museum in Kentucky from September 9 to November 27, 2016.
