The children’s shoemaker who sometimes sleeps at his factory

Giampaolo Gattafoni, who has run his family’s children’s footwear manufacturing company in Le Marche in eastern Italy for 20 years, has told local media that, at certain times of the year, he chooses to make use of a sofa-bed in his office and sleeps at the company’s factory in Monte Urano instead of going home.

In recent comments to local media, Mr Gattafoni said that his dedication to his work is no greater than that of other Le Marche footwear producers, but that, at the start of a new season when his warehouse is full of new stock awaiting delivery, he prefers to stay onsite for security reasons.

“This only happens a couple of times a year,” he said, “and when the shoes have been shipped, I go home again.” He said he feels staying at the factory is the best way to put off potential thieves.
