Venezuela: shoe manufacturers unhappy about lack of hides
06/05/2015
In recent comments to local media, Cavecal president, Luigi Pisella, said the 112 factories his member companies have in Venezuela ran at, on average, 60% of production capacity in the first quarter of 2015. He claimed that these companies are on course to produce around 50 million pairs of shoes and boots this year (a figure that sources close to the situation in Venezuela have told foowearbiz are very ambitious) and that Cavecal members represent about 80% of Venezuela’s total output.
Mr Pisella added that Cavecal had been trying to arrange a deal with the country’s main abattoirs to make sure the raw material stays in the country but had not yet succeeded. He said: “We need at least half of all the hides in Venezuela and at the moment only 25% are available.”
