Northampton-based handmade footwear manufacturerTricker’s has said Martin Mason, an executive at fashion brand Nicole Farhi, will take over as its managing director on June 1.

Nick Barltrop, the current managing director, will become chairman of the board succeeding his father, Don Barltrop, who is stepping down from the role. Nick Barltrop represents the fifth generation of his family to have run the firm. Martin Mason will be the first non-member of the family to run the company.

On announcing the appointment, Nick Barltrop commented: “I am delighted that Martin has agreed to join the Tricker’s team as our new managing director. He brings with him an invaluable wealth of knowledge in global brand-building, which will no doubt improve our visibility, drive international expansion and bring the Tricker’s brand renewed energy and growth.”

Tricker’s shoes have been handmade in Northampton since Joseph Tricker founded the company in 1829. A considerable percentage of its production consists of bespoke shoe-making in the form of made- to-measure, hand welted, bench made shoes. It still employs hand-sewers and a last-maker. It runs an own-brand retail store in Jermyn Street in London.
