ANPIC changes its name as Mexico’s tanners broaden their offering beyond shoes

Mexico’s well known national association of footwear industry suppliers ANPIC has announced that it is changing its name to Apimex and is broadening its scope to include representatives of the automotive, aerospace and IT sectors.

ANPIC’s president, Carlo Benedetti Cavaliere, said on announcing the name-change: “This new association will be a business platform linking large enterprises, especially the multinational firms that coming into Mexico in sectors such as automotive, aerospace and IT, with the supply offering that we have here.”

Mr Benedetti said that of the 240 companies that are already members of ANPIC, including tanners, 55% have diversified their offering and are selling to companies outside the footwear sector, including manufacturers of furniture, jewellery and cars. He added that, of the 45% who have not diversified their customer-base yet, 80% of them would like to.
