Italy’s economy has shown few signs of recovery and finished footwear firms have been hit hard by the economic downturn in the domestic market and by sanctions and restrictions in important export markets such as Russia. However, machinery and equipment for manufacturing and repairing footwear has been a bright spot.
With full-year figures still to be confirmed, the organisers of Simac said on the opening day that exports from Italy of footwear machinery increased in value by 14.4% in the first 11 months of 2014, compared to the same period in 2013.
Between January and November last year, footwear machinery companies in Italy achieved export sales with a value of €85.5 million, compared to €74.7 million for the same months in 2013.
