Shoe exports down for Peru

18/12/2014
Peru’s exporters’ association ADEX has confirmed a year-on-year fall of 7% in the export revenues of the country’s footwear industry in the first ten months of 2014.

Between January and August this year, Peruvian footwear manufacturers brought in a total of $23.1 million in export revenues.

Specifically, a decline of 7% in the value of exports of shoes with leather uppers made the biggest contribution to the drop in the sector’s export performance; sales of shoes with synthetic uppers increased over the ten-month period by around 6% to contribute $5.5 million to the total. Export registers record 28 different types of footwear being produced in Peru.

Together, Chile, Colombia and Ecuador account for most of Peru’s footwear export shipments, with a combined share of more than 57% of the total value.
