Own tannery makes all the difference to Carmen Steffens

Brazilian footwear and leathergoods brand Carmen Steffens opened its fourth US store in Las Vegas at the end of November and now has 300 own brand stores in 18 countries around the world.

At an event to mark the Las Vegas opening, company president, Mário Spaniol, said: “Our brand is winning admirers all over the world because it is aunthentic. We make our products with happiness and what we make, we believe in.”

Head of marketing for the company, Mariana Betine, said at the event that running its own tannery, Couroquímica at Franca in the state of São Paulo, is one of the main reasons why Carmen Steffens (named after Mr Spaniol’s mother) has been able to grow across the world. “Making things ourselves is in our DNA,” she said.
