New International Footwear Forum to launch in 2015

The European Confederation of the Footwear Industry (CEC) has announced that a new event for the global shoe industry will take place for the first time next year.

It proposed the launch of a new International Footwear Forum at the fifth World Footwear Congress in November and says that the idea won the “unanimous and overwhelming acceptance” of other industry associations present, some of which even made immediate offers to host the inaugural event in 2015.

CEC president, Jean-Pierre Renaudin, said the new International Footwear Forum was necessary as a means of bringing together representatives of leading national footwear associations and confederations to “anticipate problems, remove uncertainties and find ways to accommodate the diverse points of view in the globalised footwear economy”.

The Brussels-based organisation said in a statement on December 2 that it would take time to present the idea to associations and other footwear industry groups that were not present at the World Footwear Congress to secure their support for the new forum. It told footwearbiz that it expects to be able to announce a venue for the first International Footwear Forum during the first quarter of 2015.
