Wholly owned enterprise policy appears to pay off for Cambodia

Japan’s External Trade Agecy, JETRO, has reported a 35% increase in imports from Cambodia in the first nine months of 2014.

Between January and September this year, manufacturers in Korea exported goods worth $584 million to Japan.

Unlike some other economies in south-east Asia, the authorities in Cambodia allow wholly owned foreign enterprises to operate production facilities there, which has proved attractive to some Japanese companies.

Footwear and leathergoods are among the most important exports from Cambodia in terms of volume.
